Accessing First Merchants Online and Mobile Banking

First Merchants is a U.S. bank offering personal, business and commercial banking services through banking centers, online banking and mobile applications. Existing customers can choose their account type from the bank’s website before entering the relevant login service. This independent guide is not affiliated with First Merchants Bank.

For most searchers, the immediate job is to reach the correct personal or business login and recover access without creating another online-banking profile. Personal users should start with Personal Online Banking; commercial customers should use Business Online Banking, which follows a different enrollment and support path.

What Is First Merchants?

First Merchants Bank provides deposit accounts, loans, cards and digital-banking services. Its website identifies First Merchants Bank as a Member FDIC institution and an Equal Housing Lender.

Online and mobile banking features for personal customers include account balances, transaction searches, transfers, bill payments, mobile check deposits and Zelle access. Feature availability can differ by account type, device and region.

The first friction appears before the password box: Select Account Type to Log In. Choosing a credit-card or business option when the user needs personal deposit-account access leads to a different service, even though every choice sits under the First Merchants brand.

Pick the account type first. Skip searching for a separate unofficial login page.

How Do I Log In to First Merchants?

Open the First Merchants website and use the account-type selector. For an ordinary consumer checking or savings account, choose Personal Online Banking. The bank also lists separate options for Business Online Banking and personal or business credit cards.

During enrollment, personal online-banking users create or receive a Login ID and password. First Merchants says customers who did not receive their enrollment notification should inspect the spam folder for a message from the bank; an incorrect email address may require help from customer service.

Use credentials only on a First Merchants screen reached directly from the bank’s website or its banking application.

A wrong-page moment is common. Someone searching only “First Merchants login” may encounter similarly named banks, including First Farmers and Merchants Bank, that operate unrelated websites and account systems. Confirm the First Merchants name and site before proceeding.

Short pause.

Do not enter account information on a page whose bank name does not match.

How Do I Enroll in Online Banking?

First Merchants offers enrollment through its website and mobile application. On the website, select the personal account type and choose Enroll Now at the bottom-right of the login box. In the mobile app, use the Enroll Now option presented on the login screen.

The bank says mobile-banking enrollment involves answering authentication questions before access is established.

Enroll once.

Creating another profile because an existing login is not working can divide access attempts and complicate recovery. Customers who already had online banking should use the recovery tools rather than beginning a second enrollment.

Personal and business users should also avoid mixing enrollment instructions. First Merchants directs commercial customers to Business Online Banking from the website’s login dropdown, and its business service includes different administration and security functions.

What If I Forgot My Login ID or Password?

For personal online banking on the website, First Merchants directs users to Forgot Login ID under the login box. In the app, the recovery link may appear as Account Recovery or Log In Help, depending on the current screen or application version. The recovery process can retrieve the username, unlock access and change the password.

Do this first: use the recovery link displayed inside the current First Merchants login screen. Skip trying many password variations.

First Merchants states that repeated incorrect entries can temporarily restrict access for security. When that happens, select Account Recovery or Log In Help, choose Unlock User, and follow the displayed steps.

One older First Merchants login guide says five incorrect password entries caused a lockout under the system described in that document. Current customers should rely on the instructions shown by the live login service because security rules and interface wording can change.

First Merchants lists customer service at 1.800.205.3464 for unresolved access problems. Published service hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Why Is the First Merchants App Not Working?

First Merchants tells customers to confirm that they are using the current FMB Banking app. Its mobile-app FAQ says Apple users with automatic updates enabled should receive the update normally, while Android users may need to uninstall the older First Merchants application and download the newer FMB Banking app from Google Play.

That is a named, practical failure point. A customer may have correct credentials but continue opening an obsolete application.

Check the app name first. Skip resetting the password until the current app has been confirmed.

The bank’s browser-support page recommends current Google Chrome versions on Windows and macOS. Current and previous two major versions of Firefox are supported; Edge support is listed for Windows but not macOS, while Safari is listed for macOS rather than Windows.

Browser support can change as versions are released. Use the live browser-help page when a login form fails to load, loops or displays incorrectly.

How Does First Merchants Mobile Deposit Work?

Mobile Deposit is available through the First Merchants mobile application for customers enrolled in online and mobile banking. The user selects Mobile Deposit, chooses the receiving account, endorses the check, photographs it and follows the instructions shown in the app.

First Merchants currently publishes a maximum single-item mobile-deposit amount of $10,000 for consumer and business users. Account-specific or other limits may also apply, so the amount displayed in the customer’s service should control the attempted deposit.

Funds are not always available at the moment a check is submitted. First Merchants says that, in most cases, a mobile deposit made before 9:00 p.m. Eastern on a business day will be fully available the following day. A deposit submitted after the cutoff or on a non-banking day is treated as deposited on the next business day. Every mobile deposit remains subject to review, and a longer hold may apply.

That timeline is specific.

Do not spend against a photographed check merely because the app accepted its images. Check the deposit status and available balance first.

Where Are Bill Pay and Zelle?

First Merchants Bill Pay requires enrollment in online banking. It can display pending payments, reminders and scheduled payments, and it is also available through mobile banking.

Zelle is reached from online banking or the mobile app by selecting the Zelle icon and completing the enrollment prompts. First Merchants says users can send money using a trusted recipient’s email address or U.S. mobile number.

Use Zelle only with people or businesses you trust. First Merchants and Zelle state that authorized Zelle payments do not include purchase protection when goods are missing or differ from what was expected.

The bank currently publishes personal Zelle sending limits of $1,500 per transaction, $1,500 per day and $20,000 per month. It states that receiving limits are not imposed by First Merchants, although the sender’s financial institution may have its own limits.

Zelle availability is narrower for business accounts. First Merchants says Zelle payments are available for personal account types, while some small businesses may be able to receive payments depending on their enrollment.

How Can I Make Online Banking Safer?

First Merchants offers security alerts through the online and mobile dashboard. Published alert examples include attempted logins, external-transfer attempts, password changes, new users, newly added devices and a locked or disabled account ID.

Enable alerts first. Skip relying on monthly statements as the only way to notice unusual access.

The bank warns about calls and text messages in which someone claims to represent First Merchants and later asks for online-banking credentials or codes sent by the bank.

Do not disclose those details. Contact the bank through the number published on its website, the number on the back of the relevant bank card or a known banking center.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is the federal agency relevant to insured bank deposits. First Merchants identifies its deposit accounts as FDIC-insured, but insurance coverage depends on account ownership category and applicable FDIC rules, not merely the number of accounts shown in online banking.

When Should I Contact First Merchants?

Use the bank’s support channel when:

  • the enrollment email did not arrive after checking spam
  • the registered email address may be wrong
  • Unlock User does not restore access
  • the current FMB Banking app still rejects a valid login
  • a mobile deposit remains unresolved beyond the displayed timing
  • an alert reports activity you did not initiate
  • the wrong account type appears in the login selector

First Merchants lists 1.800.205.3464 for customer service and lost or stolen debit cards. It publishes a separate number, 1.800.558.3424, for lost or stolen credit cards.

Prepare the account type and a concise description of the screen or error. Do not send confidential banking credentials or authentication codes through ordinary email.

“Personal Online Banking shows Unlock User, but recovery does not complete” gives support a clearer starting point than “my bank is broken.”
